Abstract

Objectives: The objectives of this study were to identify young peoples’ donation motives and attitudes, and to analyze their relationships with donation acts. Methods/Statistical Analysis: In this study, SPSS Win 23.0 was used to calculate reliability analysis, descriptive statistics, and correlation analysis. And to divide the group by the psychological characteristics of donation, hierarchical cluster analysis was performed, and then multivariate analysis of variance was used to compare the differences in donation acts by groups. Findings: First, by gender, the female students donated more of their talent and time than did the males, and by school level, the college students had more experience with donating materials and talent. By religion, the Catholic students had more talent donation experience. Second, the young people were classified into three groups (low, intermediate, and high) according to their donation motivation levels. Third, in the correlation analysis, significant correlations were found among donation motivation levels and donation acts. Fourth, the MANOVA results by the psychological characteristics of donation showed differences for material and time donation experience but not for talent donation. Improvements/Applications: It will be used to identify methods to predict and change donation acts, and to encourage donation among young people, who are the key players in future society.

Abstract

Objectives: The objectives of this study were to identify the relative impact of the parent-related factors, donation motivation; psychological factors that affect young people’s donation attitude. Methods/Statistical Analysis: In this study, the scales of donation motivation, self-esteem, community spirit, donation attitude were used. SPSS Win 23.0 was used to calculate the descriptive statistics, reliability analyses, correlation analyses, and hierarchical regression analysis. Findings: Gender, school level, and religion affected the students’ donation attitudes, but monthly allowance did not. And donation attitudes were more positive among female than male students and among high school versus middle school students. For both middle and high school students, donation motivation had the greatest effect on their donation attitudes. Improvements/Applications: It will be used to improve young people’s donation attitude by various approaches for different age groups.

Abstract

Objectives: The present study was carried out to examine the structural relationship of parenting stress, growth mindset, hope and children’s well-being. To carry out this study, a survey was conducted with 290 women who have children studying at kindergartens. Statistical Analysis: The collected data were analyzed for frequency analysis, correlation analysis, reliability analysis, mean comparison analysis and structural equation modeling. Findings: First, the correlation analysis showed that parenting stress are negatively correlated with subgroups of children’s well-being, but growth mindset and hope are positively correlated with subgroups of children’s well-being. Second, the result of the structural equation modeling showed that parenting stress has a significantly negative impact on growth mindset and hope and furthermore, growth mindset had a significant impact on hope. However, it was shown that parenting stress has a negative impact on well-being and hope has a positive impact on children’s well-being. Third, the mediating effects of hope were found between growth mindset and children’s well-being and between parenting stress and children’s well-being. Improvements: Based on the results, the improvements to increase children’s well-being were suggested.

Abstract

Objectives: To investigate possible improvements of rural multicultural elem1entary schools in Korea. Methods/ Statistical analysis: A survey of a total of 27 teachers at 3 multicultural elementary schools was conducted using a freeresponse questionnaire to collect their full opinions about improvement strategies in rural multicultural elementary schools; the survey responses were analyzed to identify the central concepts of their responses. Findings: The improvement plan for rural multicultural schools can be condensed to four main concepts: interactive experience, participation, diversity, and multicultural competence. For the experience, teachers themselves should receive multicultural education field experience. To promote multicultural sensitivity, the teachers mainly suggested multicultural learning by doing. In addition, the teachers suggested encouraging philanthropic and caring personalities and respect for diversity of students. Application/Improvements: Therefore, the study suggested that the proposed activation plans for these schools be implemented by considering central concepts such as experience orientation, participation orientation, diversity and multicultural competence.

Abstract

Objectives: The present study aimed to examine the structural relationships among the self-esteem, life satisfaction, social support, and problematic behaviors of adolescents who grow up in grandparent-grandchild families. To achieve the objective, a survey was conducted among 381 adolescents in these families, and the results were as follows. Findings: First, analysis showed positive correlations among subgroups of internalized problematic behaviors. In addition, these behaviors had positive correlations with teachers’ support and friends’ support but negative correlations with life satisfaction. Additionally, externalized problematic behaviors were negatively correlated with parents’ support, teachers’ support, self-esteem, and life satisfaction. Second, structural equation modeling analysis revealed that self-esteem had a significant impact on social support and externalized problematic behaviors; life satisfaction on social support; and social support on problematic behaviors. Third, it was also found that social support mediates the relationships between self-esteem and problematic behaviors and between life satisfaction and problematic behaviours. Improvements: With these findings, this study proposes a plan to reduce the problematic behaviors of adolescents who live in grandparent-grandchild families.

Abstract

Objectives: To clarify the roles of hope and growth mind-set in the relationship between stress from child-rearing and children’s well-being. Methods/Statistical analysis: In this study, SPSS Win 21.0 was used to calculate the reliability analyses, descriptive statistics, and correlation analyses. SPSS MACRO was applied to calculate dual mediating effect and verify bootstrapping. Findings: The results showed that children’s well-being is negatively and directly influenced by parenting stress in mothers but also identifies how to improve children’s well-being by increasing hope in mothers and enhancing their growth mind-sets, specifically confirming the double mediating effects of hope and growth mind-set in the relationship between parenting stress and the children’s well-being. Improvements/Applications: It will be used to improve children’s well-being by incorporating both parental hope and mothers’ growth mind-sets in any plans.

Abstract

Background/Objectives: This study aimed to verify the structural relationships between hope, emotional intelligence, stress, social support, and self-esteem of 240 elementary school students located in rural areas in S city, T county, and Y county of C province. Methods/Statistical analysis: Data were analyzed using frequency, reliability, correlation analysis, structural equation modeling, and Sobel’s test. Findings: First, a significant positive correlation was found among selfesteem, hope, social support, and emotional intelligence, whereas a negative correlation was found between self-esteem and stress. Second, hope in rural elementary school students showed a statistically significant positive effect on social support; self-esteem and emotional intelligence showed a positive effect on social support; social support had a statistically significant positive effect on self-esteem; and stress showed a negative effect on social support and self-esteem. Third, social support had an indirect effect on the relationship between hope and self-esteem, and between stress and self-esteem, so social support was identified as an indirect mediator. Application/ Improvement: This study will be used to increase selfesteem through social; support for children.

Abstract

Background/ Objectives: This study was conducted to identify the structural relationships between acculturative stress, family-related stress, hope, and well-being in 609 immigrant women in 10 cities and provinces. Methods/ Statistical Analysis: The study conducted frequency analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, structural equation modeling, and bootstrapping. Findings: First, acculturative stress had a negative correlation with family-related stress and also with the positive factor of well-being. In contrast, it had a positive correlation with the negative factor of well-being. Hope had a positive correlation with the positive factor of well-being but a negative correlation with the negative factor of well-being. Second, acculturative stress had a significant negative impact on hope and well-being, as did family-related stress. Hope had a statistically significant positive impact on well-being. Third, it was confirmed that hope was a mediating variable in the relationship between immigrant women’s family-related stress and their well-being. Application/ Improvement: This study will be applicable for increasing the wellbeing of immigrant people.

Abstract

Background/Objectives: This study was conducted to determine the structural relationships between depression, family system perception, mental violence, and life satisfaction among 249 immigrant women living in C Province of Korea. Methods/Statistical Analysis: Frequency, reliability, and correlation analysis, structural equation modeling, and bootstrapping were applied for the data analysis. Findings: First, there was a positive correlation between family system perception and life satisfaction, but life satisfaction had negative correlations with both depression and mental violence. There was a negative correlation between depression and family system perception, but a positive correlation between depression and mental violence. Second, the depression of immigrant women had a positive impact on mental violence. Family system perception had a negative impact on mental violence but a positive impact on life satisfaction. Moreover, mental violence had a significant negative impact on life satisfaction. In contrast, family system perception had a significant positive impact on well-being. Third, mental violence was a mediating variable in the relationships between depression and life satisfaction and between family system perception and life satisfaction. Application/Improvement: This study will be used to increase the life satisfaction of immigrant women.

Both well-being and family system perception had negative correlations with stress, depression, and mental violence. Second, depression in immigrant women had a positive impact on mental violence, whereas family system perception had a negative impact; stress also had a positive impact on mental violence. Moreover, mental violence, depression, and stress had significant negative impacts on well-being. In contrast, family system perception had a significant positive impact on well-being. Third, mental violence was a mediating variable in the relationships between stress and well-being, depression and well-being, and family system perception and well-being. Application/ Improvement: This study will be used the wellbeing of immigrant women.

Abstract

Background/ Objectives: This research aimed to verify the structural relationships among social support, emotional intelligence, self-esteem, and hope in 240 elementary school students located in rural areas in Korea. Methods/ Statistical Analysis: In order to accomplish this, frequency analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, structural equation modeling, and Sobel’s test analysis were conducted. Findings: First, social support, emotional intelligence, self-esteem, and hope were positively correlated with each other. Second, social support of rural elementary school students had an impact on emotional intelligence, self-esteem, and hope. Moreover, emotional intelligence and self-esteem also had impacts on hope. Third, there was a mediating effect of emotional intelligence and self-esteem between social support and hope. Applications/Improvement: These findings will be used to increase hope level of elementary students through social support, emotional intelligence, and self-esteem.

Abstract

Background/Objectives: This study aimed to identify any structural relationships among Activities of Daily Living (ADL), support and suicidal ideation and to analyze the mediating roles of hope and self-esteem. Methods/Statistical Analysis: The study targeted 330 elderly persons aged 65 or older in S urban and rural complex city. For analysis of data, the study used frequency, correlation, reliability, mean comparison and multiple regression analysis and structural equation modeling. Findings: The correlation analysis showed the following results. First, support and hope, support and self-esteem, ADL and hope and ADL and self-esteem had significant positive correlations but ADL and suicidal ideation, hope and suicidal ideation and self-esteem and suicidal ideation had significant negative correlations. Second, the structural equation model analysis showed that support for the elderly had a significant influence on hope and self-esteem and that ADL had a significant influence on hope, self-esteem and suicidal ideation. Third, in the relationship between support for the elderly and suicidal ideation, hope and self-esteem had indirect effects and were found to be mediating variables. This means that support for the elderly does not have a direct effect on suicidal ideation but is indirectly influenced by hope and self-esteem. In addition, it was found that ADL directly influenced suicidal ideation and was mediated by hope and self-esteem. This result shows that suicidal ideation in the elderly is influenced by hope and self-esteem as well as ADL. Consequently, ADL, hope and self-esteem should all be subjects of focus for preventing suicide among the elderly. Additionally, the roles of hope and self-esteem, which mediate the relationships between support and suicidal ideation and between ADL and suicidal ideation, should also be considered. Application/Improvement: This study will be applicable to prevent the elderly from suicide.
